Expect the Unexpected

When going onsite to troubleshoot any sort of fault, always be prepared to think out of the box and come across issues you didn’t think could arise. Also don’t always rely on software reporting - it may lead you down a garden path.

On this occasion, the network at one of client’s was not working as expected, what we discovered was unexpected, and we had not come across before!

The Enable ONT was plugged into the Switch causing all sorts of networking issues, however, being under the radar was enough due to tools not reporting any faults, and the faults being intermittent. Tracing the yellow cable definitely helped in this situation!

Unplugging the ONT seemed to resolve the issue.

For reference, an ONT in general needs to be plugged into a Router, then from the Router into a switch.
