Is it a Myth: Can Macs Get Viruses?

TL;DR: MACS CAN MOST CERTAINLY GET VIRUSES

At Computer Clinic, we are constantly asked why we recommend Anti-Virus for Macs.

It is true that Mac’s are less suspectable of getting infected due to their lower market share, therefore they are less of a target to malicious infections. Also, due to macOS and how it is designed, it’s much more secure than Windows. However, when Mac’s get infected, it can either be small to resolve the issue or an almost full reinstall of macOS starting afresh.

Even the latest M1 Macs that are using completely different architecture to the Intel can be infected. This was made apparent in February with the revelation of the ‘Silver Sparrow’ malware.

MacKeeper is also a big piece of malware we see commonly installed on Mac’s that we come across.

We recommend and use ESET Anti-Virus for Mac’s (as well as Windows PC’s) for the best possible protection available.

So get in contact now and we can get your Mac the security it needs!
