Ultrawide Monitors: The Future of Productivity & Gaming

A NEW PHENOMENON IS TAKING OVER DESKS SLOWLY BUT SURELY ALL OVER THE WORLD.

I am a big believer in UltraWide monitors being superior to normal monitors for both productivity and content consumption. The shift from our current monitors to Ultrawide will be almost the same from those square LCD’s from the mid 2000’s to what we have now.

Instead of 2 - 3 monitors on your desk, you are now able to have one big one and have Windows/Apps split in any way, shape, or form. Your full peripheral vision can be used for games, and all the content you need for your workflow can be achieved on one surface area.

Using Dirt 3 as an example, the first picture is of it running on a standard 16:9 monitor:

As compared to 21:9 or Ultrawide Monitor:

Notice the additional view in the window to the left, and the passenger seat to the right. Making the game much more immersive.

This is because of how content is displayed on the screen due to the aspect ratio, better explained in this diagram:

1920x1080 or 1080p has been the defacto standard for the last 10 years, and is what most monitors are now.

As you can see, additional content can be viewed by width.

Additionally how cool does Flight Simulator look with all that extra screen real estate!

It’s not just gaming that gains an advantage however, for example, if you are a major Excel user, the amount of additional columns you can fit on the screen without scrolling is staggering - from AC to BA.

Other screen real estate heavy tasks such as viewing plans for construction, CAD Design, or even doing Zoom Meetings can be enhanced and improved upon using an Ultrawide Monitor for business purposes

The only downside to having such a big monitor is both cost, and size. 49” ultrawide monitors start at $1300ish, and 34” at around $800, much more expensive than normal 16:9 monitors.

Having a 49” monitor on your desk may not work for you….

All in all, if you are looking to improve your productivity workflow, experience a new gaming or content consumption experience or looking to minimalise your workspace, then we can assist with getting the right Ultrawide Monitor for you!
